We didn't set out to become a software company. We set out to find a practical ERP system that would bring the business together, cut out the noise and make fabrication workflow easier to manage day to day.
Information was spread across spreadsheets, paperwork, emails, whiteboards and separate systems. Departments worked differently, creating duplicate entry, missed handovers and too much time spent chasing the latest information.
We researched the ERP market and chose a supplier who said fabrication and engineering businesses were their target market, with more than 400 companies in the sector already using their software.
The implementation was long and difficult. The system felt rigid when drawings changed, materials arrived late or partially, priorities moved, urgent work entered the programme and production capacity changed.
After around 18 months of trying to make it fit, the original aim of reducing admin had gone into reverse. Workarounds and duplicate entry were increasing.
We decided to build a system around the way fabrication, engineering and manufacturing businesses actually operate. Every department should see the same live job record: where it is, what has happened, what happens next and who owns the next action.
